Required  safety devices include limit controls, detection systems, and alarms.  Within the category of limit controls, there are temperature, pressure, flow, liquid level and similar protective devices.  Processes that use hazardous or flammable gases may require gas detection that activates emergency shutoff and alarm.  Testing to ensure that these devices are operating as intended is an important requirement of the Fire Code.
